How we lived for Saturdays

This project documents people in public leisure spaces and stems from a fascination with how people occupy their leisure time and relate to these spaces in contemporary South Africa. I'm interested in the expressive qualities of free time and the ways in which historical, political and social-economic undercurrents cut through idyllic spaces and destabilise them. If Saturday represents a yearned for destination, where do we go to spend that time and how do we utilise and interact with free time and 'freedom' in post-apartheid South Africa? (Work in progress)
